Next Monthly Meeting

Thursday, January 11, 2018

11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

PLACE: EL SOL RESTAURANT

Dear LCR Members, Friends, Supporters:

With 2018 coming in fast, accompanied
by midterm elections, it time we regroup and ensure we have a say in who will represent our community! 2017 has been a challenging year for the Latino Community Roundtable (LCR). However, our Latino community leaders and neighbors are resilient, and we intend to keep LCR strong and active; we need your support and initiative to do so.
On behalf of the LCR Board of Directors, I regret to inform you that we recently received a letter of resignation from Rebecca Harrington, LCR President. We wish her the best in her future endeavors and thank her for her hard work and leadership.

With that being said, we have some big shoes to fill and need to restructure our leadership positions within our Board.
LCR NOMINATIONS FOR 2018-2020 BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
Nominations are now open for the following positions with the LCR Board of Directors.  Each seat is for two years.
President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary
Parliamentarian
Historian
Directors (3)
As your immediate past Vice President, I, Aaron O. Anguiano, accepted to serve as President upon Rebecca’s resignation until the elections in January 2018, at which point I intend to run for the subsequent President term. Marco Moreno is also interested in continuing to serve on the LCR Board in a different capacity as his term as Treasurer ends this year.  Jaime Franco was appointed Sgt.-At-Arms this past August; his position will continue until August 2019.

LCR Member Oscar Cabello has graciously accepted to be the Chairperson for the Nomination of Officers Committee.  If you are interested in serving on the LCR Board of Directors, please contact Oscar by email at Oscar.l.cabello@wellsfargo.com  or by text at 209-480-2608.
The January election meeting will be on Thursday, January 11,
2018, at Noon at El Sol Mexican Restaurant.   Please be aware that serving on any Board is not an easy task.  We ask you to please dedicate about 8 hours a month. Only LCR Members will vote for the new LCR Board of Directors.

LCR MONTHLY MEETINGS:
Meetings will continue to be on the Second Thursday of each month
at the discretion of the Board to change dates.  For now, the meetings will be at El Sol Mexican Restaurant (500 9th. St. Modesto, CA). Meetings are open to the public.

17th ANNUAL CESAR CHAVEZ SI SE PUEDE EMPOWERMENT LUNCHEON:

The Board has been working on this fundraiser for several weeks now.  We are taking Bids for a large venue that is available during lunch with a reasonably priced menu.  Also, this year our goal is to invite the high school students again and the junior high students from Cesar Chavez Junior High School in Ceres.  We have also decided to honor a member or former member
of our community as the recipient of the Cesar Chavez Legacy Award. In addition, we have already begun to search for a speaker that can address the following issues that impact our community:

• Immigration Impacting California such as Sanctuary Cities and DACA Students
• Social Justice
• Environmental Justice

I want to personally take this time to thank you for your continued support to LCR.  Next year will be a busy year for LCR. We will return to Political issues and especially set up a Legislative Committee and endorse the candidates or Measures on the Ballot that we feel will serve our community in our best interest.  Next year, there will be national, state, and local elections.  If you are interested in getting involved in issues that affect our community, LCR has opportunities for you to get involved.

On behalf of LCR, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope to see all of you in 2018!

Sincerely,
AARON ANGUIANO
LCR PRESIDENT
